Sa Torre, 3 bedroom, 3 bath/shower rooms, sleeps 6 people. The old road from Pollença to Campanet, meanders through idyllic rural scenery with rolling wooded hillsides, giving way to olive groves, fields of sheep and simple farmhouses. 150 metres from the old road and although perhaps simple in comparison to some of its grander neighbours back in the hills, Sa Torre is a charming hacienda style villa, concealing behind its glossy green shutters, comfortable family accommodation, with all three bedrooms boasting en-suite facilities. At the heart of the property the cool and spacious covered terrace – a conservatory a la Mallorquin – provides the perfect venue to linger over a barbecue. Nearby, the sparkling 7 metre swimming pool is finished with classic blue mosaic tiles.
Double doors open from the terrace : into the farmhouse style kitchen, with traditional beamed ceiling and a huge wood burning stove in one corner. Wooden units with a marble work surface extend along one wall, incorporating a range style gas cooker, microwave oven and large fridge freezer. There’s a dining area to the rear of the kitchen, beyond which a door leads to a small covered yard housing a washing machine and a traditional Mallorquin bread oven. A second set of double doors lead directly from the terrace into the living room where a sofa and chairs, are grouped around an ornate wood burning stove, whilst a gleaming linen chest and treadle sewing machine give a touch of old world elegance. To the right, a door opens directly to the ground floor twin bedroom, the windows revealing views of the swimming pool across the terrace. The en-suite shower room with toilet and washbasin can also be accessed from the kitchen.
On the other side of the sitting room,: a short corridor leads to a further, slightly smaller bedroom, with double bed and en suite bathroom. Standing alone at first floor level, the second twin bedroom, with en-suite shower room offers a touch more privacy and has patio doors to its own small balcony, from where incidentally we spotted an exotically plumaged Hoopoe, in the little orchard of fig trees adjoining the pool.
Campanet: is just under 10 minutes drive away, whilst Old Pollença is approx. a 15 minute drive and its’ just a further 5 minutes to the beaches of Puerto Pollença. The house has a TV with satellite receiver.
Location: Campanet in Spain
Car: necessary
Situated on the edge of the green and wooded foothills of the Tramuntana Mountains, the village of Campanet’s one claim to fame is its amazing limestone caves, said to house the longest stalactite in the world! It also makes a good starting point for an exhilarating drive to the mountain top Monastry at Lluc via the picturesque village of Caimari. Campanet has no less than 3 bakeries, as well as a well-stocked supermarket and a delicatessen. The sunny church square has a number of simple bars and small shops and it’s a pleasant spot to linger over a morning coffee and croissant before heading off for the day. there are also two or three bars that serve authentic tapas or simple meals, but the village has surprisingly remained a peaceful backwater, virtually untouched by tourism. Via the scenic country road, Old Pollença with a choice of shops and restaurants is a 20 min drive, whilst nearer by, a 10 minute drive will bring you to hill village of Selva which has at 3 restaurants.
